Edgar Allan Poe was a phenomial man. If you know an fan, here’s 10 awesome gifts for an Edgar Allan Poe Fans that will blow their Poe-Loving Mind!
So…many people love Halloween and being scared and horrified can be thrilling. One of the enduring symbols of fear and dread are the works of writer Edgar Allan Poe. His short stories “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “Berenice” continue to embody the macabre even today. Born January 19, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe for over two centuries has held readers and scholars spellbound with his works of horror fiction – “The Tell-Tale Heart” – and his mysterious life. “The Raven” (1845) remains a classic poem recited by people all over the world. The poem’s narrative with the bird inspires darkness, despair, and horror.
His last public reading of “The Raven” was held at Talavera House in Richmond. Witnesses reported guests fleeing the room from fright. It’s difficult to watch a horror film without seeing at least one raven in it. He didn’t solely focus on horror and that’s what captures imaginations as well. He is widely considered the creator of the modern detective story. His character C. Auguste Dupin first appears in “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” (1841) and would go on to be in two additional stories. Poe’s use of deductive reasoning in solving mysteries would later influence future authors including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, and Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot.
Legacy
He is considered one of the first science fiction writers. He combined fantasy and science and turned it into his short story “The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfall” (1835). In “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar”he writes about the possibility of the resurrection of the dead. His essay “Eureka” is his interpretation of the universe and spirituality.
bottom line is that…
Poe was certainly a man whose imagination held few boundaries, especially for his time. He only lived to 40 years old and died on October 7, 1849. To this day, the circumstances of his death have yet to be explained. His legacy is one that frightens readers, and yet he also represents writing at its best. Poe readers and enthusiasts are as fascinated as ever with him and his work. If you are a lover of horror, mystery, and the macabre or know someone who is, these gifts will surely be coveted ones.
